Nowhere is “luxury for the masses” evolving in homebuilding as quickly as in home automation. What was once considered a convenience only for the rich is now available, in parts, through wirelessly connected devices like thermostats and lights to control apps on smartphones and tablets.
Last week Lennar Homes announced that it will offer what has been considered a luxury home control system, Savant Systems, at its Landmark development featuring contemporary townhomes in Doral, Fla., northwest of Miami. Pardon the pun, but this could be a landmark event in homebuilding. “This is modern architecture, we felt as such we would provide a higher level of automation to our homeowners in this market,” says Frank Fernandez, director of Sales and Marketing for Lennar Homes' South East Division.
